A Return to Natural Living

There's no denying that a balanced diet is essential for a healthy style of life—but with the mass of fad/crash diets and food trends available, choosing the right foods can be confusing.

While fad/crash diets are often difficult to stick with and impractical at times, the real secret to maintaining good health is to combine a healthy eating plan with daily physical activity. Remember when you are eating well, you are living well!

Get back to basics with these simple tips to develop a healthy eating plan that suits your active style of life:

  • Healthy eating is about enjoying a rich and varied range of foods, everyday. Try incorporating nutritious produce from different food groups into every meal. The 5 food groups are categorized based on their nutrient content: vegetables, breads and cereals, fruit, dairy and meats/alternatives.
  • Include more 'raw foods' and minimize the amount of processed foods in your diet – uncooked fruit and vegetables contain even more nutritious vitamins and minerals. Raw plant based foods also serve to aid your digestion and immune system—great for vitality!
  • Choose low or reduced fat dairy products such as milk and yoghurt.
  • Select lean meats (meat trimmed of fat), skinless poultry, and fish. Try to limit fatty meats including sausages, and delicatessen meats such as salami.
  • Treat take-out meals as a treat, no more than once a week. Take-out meals include: pizza, pastries, creamy pasta dishes, fried chicken and hamburgers.
  • Be aware and monitor the amounts of polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils and fats in your diet.
  • Portion control—moderate the portion of your meals while ensuring plenty of vegetables. Choosing smaller, frequent meals and snacks will help you enjoy the variety in your diet.
  • Snack on plain, unsalted nuts and fresh fruit.
  • Don't forget that enjoying food and eating is the key to sustaining healthy habits in the long term… so you can include the occasional treat as part of your healthy balanced diet!

Fad diets will come and go, but with the tips above—it's easy to create your own healthy diet plan.

As nature intended.

Make healthy living and getting 'back to natural' part of your daily habit.
